Free for All

I hope that everyone has had a fabulous week! I am one week closer to being done with this semester, woohoo! Tomorrow I am spending the day in Canton with my mom. If any of you have been to Canton before, you probably know that I am super excited!

Here are the fab features from last week:

I've never worn anything like this in my hair, but I totally would! I love this hairdo and the fun flower clip by Christina's Advertures! (P.S. If you make an extra you can send it my way!)

Cut the Craft! made this lamp out of a cool jug, how cool is that?!

I'm an abstract art kinda girl, mostly because I can't paint inside the lines. I am loving this super simple abstract art by Dans le Townhouse!

I am a HUGE crafter! I love to make just about anything, and I love learning new ways to create stuff! Which is the reason I started following craft blogs like “Young & Crafty” in the first place. On my site you will stumble upon paper crafts, home and holiday d├ęcor, and kids crafts. Right now I am undergoing my first ever furniture redo! So exciting! I also love a clean house, (notice I didn’t say that MY house was clean, that is always a work in progress! wink, wink) so every Tuesday I share a cleaning or organizing tip. We also seriously LOVE to eat around my house so you will find recipes and yummy foods!

Here are samples of stuff you can check out if you come and visit me!

Jalapeno Bites

Here is a quick and easy appetizer for ya! I found this one in Trisha Yearwood's Home Cooking recipe book. There are actually quite a few recipes that I want to try!

Jalapeno Bites

1 8-oz package cream cheese (softened)
2 cups grated Parmesan cheese
4 tablespoons pickled jalapeno peppers
1 large egg, beaten
3 cups dry bread crumbs

Preheat oven to 350.
Mix cream cheese, Parmesan cheese, jalapenos and egg to form a paste. (If you need a good mixer, there are Target coupons available for Kitchen Aid!) Shape into balls. Roll the balls in the bread crumbs. Place on baking sheet and bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.

Make sure you have something to drink handy, these have a kick to them!

P.S. In no way, shape, form, or fashion are these good for you, however they are good!

Guest Bedroom DIY Wall Art

There is one room in the house that I haven't shown you (besides the bathrooms) and that is the guest bedroom. I like it but it just needs a little work.

About, oh let's say 6 months ago, I decided to use some leftover wood from my DIY headboard and make some wall art. I've used wood several times as my "canvas". (Here and Here and Here)

The first attempt was, ummm, not what I was looking for.

Honestly, I don't think it's the worst, most awful thing I've every seen. There was just something off about it. Everyone I asked said it was just "ok".

And there it sat in the guest bedroom. For 6 months. Or so. Who's really counting anyway?

I was finally inspired and came up with this:

I looked at an image on my Cricut cartridge called Songbird and lightly drew my outline with a pencil. So basically I free handed the image and then painted it with my Winter Lake paint that I used here.

To hang the boards I used 3 screws. 2 on top and one on the bottom.

A few of them caused the wood to split a little. No worries.

I painted over all of the screws. I may be a lot of things but a perfectionist is not one of them! You can't even tell unless you are looking for the screws.

I think this version turned out much better. Maybe it's because I added leaves and branches.

I guess I've jumped on the bird bandwagon now!

My husband doesn't "get" this whole artwork thing but what does he know anyway?

My wall art hangs over this wood chest that Wyatt and his dad made. It used to hold firewood. This thing is gargantuan, as in ginormously huge! We now use it for our snow gear.

So while we're hanging out in the guest room, I suppose I'll show you around the rest of the room!

This is the view from the door. I absolutely love the bedding. The wall color was what the previous owners had and we both liked it enough to keep it. I've thought about putting horizontal stripes on the wall along the bed in a translucent color. I also would like to paint the bed but that's an undertaking! And I would love to put something above the bed. The little pup can stay :)

The window is screaming for some beautiful curtains. I haven't found the perfect fabric yet!

Here's the other side of the room. If I ever paint the bed I will paint the dresser the same color. There's a frame sitting on top and an unfinished project that's been sitting there for, oh, let's just say 9 months.

So there's the guest bedroom tour! I can't promise you when or if I'll every complete any of those wish list items but be rest assured that you'll see the result!

One last before and after of the wall art:

So what do you think? Be honest, I can take it!

Garden Update

I've got a little garden update for you guys! I guess you could say that I have 2 small gardens. The hubs let me have another area that will hold our firewood next year. There was azalea bushes there but we transplanted them to the front flower beds.

Here is the area where I planted. I have 2 rows filled with carrots, radishes, and purple onion. You can see that the radishes have already sprouted in this picture.

If you are thinking about growing a garden, radishes are the easiest thing you can possibly grow. The sprout in about a week and are super low maintenance! When they do sprout up, you have to thin them to one sprout every inch or so. If you are more patient than I am you can plant just one seed about an inch apart!

And here's how it looks today! The radishes are growing like crazy and the carrots and purple onion have sprouted. You can see a spot towards the back where I must have spilled some radish seeds. Oh well! More radishes will grow, just not in the designated area!

I showed you my circle garden a few weeks ago and here is how it is today. Two tomato plants have died but I'm not sweating it! I will probably just plant two more.

(Yes, I did in fact mispell jalapeno in the above picture. And yes, I am to lazy to fix it. Whoops!)

That's thing about gardening, you can't take it to seriously. If you do then it won't be any fun!

Here are the baby jalapeno sprouts! You need to thin these as well. I left about 3 sprigs in case one or 2 died.

Is your garden growing?
