Fall Porch

Let me just tell you, I have been crafting my be-hind off. My cousin has a baby shower this weekend and I've been super busy preparing stuff for it and the baby. I've got plenty of fun stuff to share but that won't be until after next week.

I've also been sneaking in some other crafts! I've finally gotten my front porch decorated for fall.

You hear that? No? That's just my front porch screaming FALL!

I sorta, kinda, dislike strongly, my little front porch. That awkward space to the right needs something there. It's small and big at the same time. Too small for a bench and to big to put a simple pot or something.

I must say, I just love my cheesy little scarecrow. I think he's kinda cute!

Check out my corn stalks back there! I just love the extra added height. My husband, however, couldn't believe that I bought cornstalks. He said I should have just gone and gotten some from a corn field. Ummm... Louisiana doesn't have to many corn fields (if any). Men, what do they know about decorating?!

I made the garland around the door myself. I totally copied Under the Table and Dreaming's garland idea.

From the Dollar Tree, I grabbed up 16 stems (Yes, 16. Yes, I meant to get 15. No, I cannot count.) I then went to my yarn stash and got some neutral colored yarn and threaded the leaves onto it. I love that it's not a wimpy garland. $16 is kind of an expensive garland but if I wanted one this full I would have had to buy about 4 garlands or more.

Ahh I just love this part of fall... the decorating part that is!

I'll be back to share how I re-purposed that little chair. And I also changed out my wreath since this picture to make it a little more fallish.

What do you guys think of my little front porch?

Pallet Artwork

Be sure and follow along via RSS feed or Facebook so that you don't miss any Young and Crafty posts!

After creating my "love" pallet artwork, I had some of a pallet leftover. I just couldn't throw it away and there it sat in the garage since June. Hey, sometimes it takes a couple months to get inspired :)

I found my inspiration from Pinterest. (Follow me HERE). You must go see Two Girls Being Crafty's version.

Here's how I made mine:

You can see from my picture exactly what I did. I didn't end up using the smaller board because that was the only one that size and it just looked weird.

The little board didn't go to waste! I used it to connect all of the bigger boards. For this process I used my nail gun and used about a million nails. Notice that I totally nailed it in crooked. That's just how I roll :)

I then painted my board with two coats of white paint.

I then used paint pens to draw on my branches. TRUST me, use a paint pen! It made this so much faster and I don't even want to know what it would have looked like if I painted it with a brush. I know my limitations and free hand painting is one of them!

You will then need various sizes of circle brushes and whatever color paint you want to use. In the original, they used many different colors but I just stuck with blues since I knew this art was going somewhere in my living room.

Randomly put dots all over your board. I was super lazy and didn't even wash my brushes between colors. I sort of just wiped them off or mixed them. This is also after I put on my favorite glaze.

Grab your sander and rough it up a bit.

At first I was really unsure if I liked it. The color is so similar to the wall color.

But I tell you what, every time I pass by it I love it a little more!

And here is the whole vignette! Complete with my 2x4 pumpkin, sofa table, chair, and tray.

So what do you think? To matchy-matchy?

My Love/Hate Relationship with Fall

WAIT a second, HOLD the phone, SLAM on the breaks!

I may be the only blogger in the universe who will openly admit that I kinda, sorta hate fall. That seals the deal, Thrifty Decor Chick will probably never read my blog now. Shucks.

First, I'm going to tell you 5 reasons why I HATE fall:

1. Fall means that cold weather is right around the corner. I seriously hate cold weather. Here in Louisiana, we don't have snow. Therefore it's just plain cold and it's a wet cold rather than a dry cold. I only like cold for 1 week out of the year and that's when I'm skiing down a mountain :)

2. The time changes. The days get shorter. It's dark at 6 PM. It's dark when you wake up. You can't do anything outside!

3. School starts back up. 'Nuff said.

4. No more having a nice golden tan. This may be superficial, but let's face it folks, you feel better about yourself when you are tan. If you can't tone it, tan it.
And I refuse to fake bake.

5. The lazy days of summer are gone. :(
(This is not my dog)

Ok so I can't have you guys thinkin' I'm a pessimist or anything.
 Even though I am sometimes.
 Just sayin'.

Instead, I'm going to leave you with 5 reasons why I LOVE fall!

1. The leaves change to vibrant colors. You can't help but marvel at how beautiful nature is.

2. I get to redecorate my house. This may be the funnest part :)
Here is my Falloween mantel from last year.

3. And let's face it, this summer has been SCORCHING HOT! Here in NW Louisiana we set a record for a bazillion straight days of over 100 degree weather. It was suck.the.life.out.of.you.OMG.it.is.freaking.HOT. all summer long.

4. Fall means Thanksgiving and Christmas. It meas family and friends. Love and Laughter.

5. And last but not least, it means a new year is right around the corner. A new year with new beginnings!

So tell me, am I the ONLY blogger who has a love/hate relationship with fall?!
