After approximately 30 glue sticks, a bruised index finger, and about 3-4 Netflix episodes of Gossip Girl, I now I have the most beautiful tree skirt imaginable.
I found this gorgeous tree skirt from Miss Mustard Seed and knew that I MUST make it. I never really liked our tree skirt before. It was a cheap one that looked like Santa. Fluffy and red with white trim. So I pinned it to my “To Do List” board and dreamed about making my own. (Follow me on Pinterest HERE)
While I loved the version from Miss Mustard Seed, it was a little to shabby chic for my tree. So I scoured Christmas fabrics at Hancock’s and found one that I loved. You can’t go wrong with red and white!
I grabbed some curtains that I wasn’t using and sewed them to make a 4 1/2 by 4 1/2 square. It doesn’t matter what it looks like because it will be covered up by beautiful ruffles!
I followed the tutorial on how to cut the tree skirt. I had 2 yards of fabric for the ruffles.
I cut my strips of fabric in 4 in. strips so that it wouldn’t take me 10 years to finish this thing. Squirt a line of hot glue.
And then squish the fabric together to form ruffles. I didn’t worry about fray checking the edges. I hope that it does start to fray a little on all the edges! That and maybe I was too lazy to put fray stuff around ALL the edges. :)
After finishing round one, I knew I had seriously underestimated how much fabric this would take! That’s when I decided to improvise and alternate with the print and white. I used more of my leftover curtain and used white next.
And the rest is history. This skirt took about 3 hours to make. Maybe more. I sort of lost track of time.
Oh I just love, love, love it! It looks so luxurious to me!
And here is the whole tree!
Much better than my old Santa skirt. Now all it needs is presents!
Have you tried making your own tree skirt?
