Here is my very first submission for American Crafter! So please, please, PLEEEASSSE head over and vote for me to move on to the next round! Go to Naptime Crafters to cast your vote.
Here is how I made this art:
I had some scrap wood leftover in the garage. I grabbed some up and drew my letters. The E and the T are very precise. The A on the other hand… well let’s just say I got an A and that was good enough!
Next, cut your letters out with a jigsaw. Make sure you concentrate and have a super death grip on the jigsaw. Can we say creepy hand?
I had to ask the hubs how to cut the center of the A out. Yup, it was a definite DUH moment. Just drill a hole big enough to put the jigsaw blade in.
Now comes the 3-D part. I bought 2 – 1x3 boards. This involved a lot of measuring and piecing and cutting and nailing. Basically just measure the length of the E and then cut a 1x4 the same length. Keep going until all the letters or done. The A is a little tricky but I just went with it!
Now spackle the edges so the crease is lest noticeable. I’m probably the laziest sander on the face of earth so this was easier than sanding till it was smooth.
Now you are ready to paint! I found an awesome black mis-tint paint at Lowe’s for $2.50. I snatched that right up!
And then hang it up and admire! Since the backs are open I didn’t even use hangers. Just hung them up.
I love the graphic way it looks. Matches our tile backsplash perfectly!
Make sure you head over and vote!!
