After watching a few documentary’s and talking to my sister (AKA the future registered dietitian and recent graduate with her Masters) about juicing and the benefits your body get’s from detoxing and cleansing, I’ve decided that I’m going to try it out. The two documentary’s that I watched on Netflix were Hungry for Change and Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. Of course, along with the health benefits, I also want to lose a few pounds. Who doesn’t this time of year? There are many, many companies that you can purchase the juices from. They are to expensive for me!
I wish I could say that once I was done with my short cleanse that I wasn’t going to go back to eating any processed foods, but I probably will. They are everywhere. I typically monitor how much I eat daily and will continue to do so even after the cleanse.
This is the juicer that I purchased at Wal-mart. Let me tell you, you can spend a pretty penny on a juicer. I don’t plan on becoming a juicing fanatic so I opted for the sensible, lower end version. So far, this one has worked really well. My sister and I tried out Green Lemonade (Picture on Instagram, hannahyoungancrafty and Twitter) which was a concoction of celery, kale, ginger root, apples, parsley and a lemon. Sounds disgusting but it wasn’t to bad! The spout where you put the veggies and fruits in is a little small but a knife works just fine to cut them up into smaller pieces.
I purchased all of my fruits and vegetables for around $60 total. For three days that’s $20 per day and breaks down even further to roughly $3 per meal. I will be doing 6 juices or a smoothie a day for three days. NONE of the juices are repeated. That’s all you “eat” for three whole days.
I’ve collected different recipes from around the web for different juices. Most of mine involve fruit with the veggies to knock off the bitter taste.Each day I am going to update you guys with the recipes for the juices that I drank, if I liked them and how I felt. I’ve heard that many people feel pretty lousy and moody because of all the toxins leaving your body. I’ve also heard that you might spend a considerable amount of time in the bathroom. I won’t update you on that part :)
I’m a little nervous about feeling hungry and wanting to scarf down every morsel of food in sight. Hopefully that won’t be the case! I can’t wait to get this journey started and share it with you guys. Tomorrow kicks off day one.
