Guest Post by Craft Geek: Sneaker Re-do Tutorial

Today I've got Jesika here from Craft Geek! She's got a fun redo of some old sneakers. Be sure to swing by her blog and see what she's up to!

Hello there! I am Jesika, I blog over at Craft Geek! I am so excited to be here! I love Young & Crafty! I also love/am obsessed with refashioning and crafting and cooking, I would say it is a problem but I really don't think it is. But my boyfriend may beg to differ...

On a daily basis I look through my closet to try to find something to refashion. It just so happened I had some Vans that I just did not like to wear anymore... I mean they are like 3 years old and the velcro strap shoes were brand new when I got them but I grew out of them. I didn't want to throw them away so I go to refashioning them!
Original Sneaks
First things first I undid all the Velcro and made sure it wasn’t through the loop. I then took my seam ripper and took them off completely. It does take a little bit of time and this activity is not for children since a seam ripper and exacto knife is involved but you can surely do it for them!
After you have the Velcro straps removed it is time use an exacto knife and make some slits. You want them to be even with the eyelet holes on the other side. I made mine rectangular because then it looked the most similar to the eyelets. Make sure you get through all the layers of the shoe.
After you have the holes cut pick some cute about 1/2” wide ribbon. I opted for black with white polka dots since I wanted a simple black/white but awesome shoe.
Now you can leave it there with ribbon laced shoes or you can go a step further like I did and bling the toe with some crystals and Aleene’s Jewel-It Glue. If you do the bling let it dry for 24hours before wear unless it is about to rain it is best to let them dry for a week before you trek through water.
So my shoes are now blinged out and girly and no longer boyish and boring!
I hope I gave you some inspiration to refashion on your own! It is seriously so fun and there are so many possibilities. Stop by my blog to see some more refashions! Stay Crafty -Jesika (The Craft Geek)
