Teacher Appreciation Gift with Starburst and Skittles Printable

I am a member of the Collective Bias® Social Fabric® Community. This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for #CollectiveBias and its advertiser.

Teacher Appreciation Gift

You might be wondering why I am making a teacher appreciation gift since I do not have any kids. I’ve mentioned a few times that I’m doing my internship to be a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology. Basically what my job entails is assessing kids to see if they need special education, consulting with teachers on behavior, counseling, and many more things. For my internship this year, I had to have a few specific things done to fulfill my requirements. These requirements involved working pretty closely with a few teachers. They have helped me out immensely and gone above and beyond to help me graduate. I knew that I wanted to do something to thank them for all of their hard work.

skittlesandstarburst2

I picked up a variety pack of Skittles & Starburst 30 Pack from Sam's Club. You can find this 30 pack of Skittles and Starbursts on the candy aisle.

skittlesandstarburst

This variety pack was for sale for $12.09 at Sam’s Club. Pretty good deal for 30 packs of Skittles and Starbursts! And it is about as colorful as you can get! #VIPFruitFlavors

Skittleandstarbursts

I picked up a few other things to add to my care package. I went to Target and hit up the dollar spot and found the cute bucket and note pads. I figure teachers can always use notepads. Dry erase markers are another great idea for teachers. They are constantly writing things on the dry erase boards and will always need markers! I picked up the Elmer’s Craft Bond squares at Wal-Mart. These are a must to help create a multi-dimensional care package!

skittlesandstarbursts1

Fill your buckets with grocery sacks or paper towels to bring your items towards the top.

skittlesandstarburst3

See how awesome these Elmer’s Craft Bond squares are? They stick to whatever you need and are helpful to add height and stagger your objects in the bucket.

Teacher Appreciation Gift 1

As you can see in the finished bucket, everything is different heights. The Skittles are taller than the Starbursts and the dry erase markers are all different heights. It’s much more difficult to do this if you don’t have the squares! I added the cute printable with a little jute. It’s just a very cheesy little saying to show my appreciation!

TeacherGift

I can’t wait to give these to them! Teachers are some of the hardest working people you will ever meet. I sure hope these teachers know how much they have helped me out this year and how much I truly appreciate them.

And here is the cheesy printable that I created. Let me just tell you that not a whole lot rhymes with Skittles and Starburst!

If you use this printable for something, I would LOVE to see pictures!

Brittany’s Fun Friday!

Fun Friday (1)

I am so glad it is Friday!  Brent is visiting me in San Antonio and we have dinner plans at our favorite sushi restaurant named Wasabi
I feel like my Fun Friday posts are usually full of beauty products, and this week is no exception!!

My first favorite is the Sigma F80 Flat Kabuki foundation brush.  I have been obsessed with watching make-up and hair tutorials on YouTube since grad school and have recently fallen in love with Jacyln Hill’s YouTube channel.  She swears by this brush and after yearning for it for months, I finally made the plunge.  I also picked up her favorite concealer brush, which is not technically a concealer brush.  It’s the F86 Tapered Kabuki brush.  I now dab my foundation off the back of my hand, making me feel like such a pro.  This is definitely the gateway to dabbling in high end products…my bank account will not be pleased.

As summer approaches and sweater & boots become maxis & flip-flops, this next product is key!  The Loreal Sublime Bronzer Towelettes are a safe way to get that summer glow.  The first day I used this product I was really pleased….until I woke up the next day with streaky spots on the back of my arm and calves.  It was pretty hysterical.  But after the second application it looked bronze and flawless.  The towelettes look like a large make-up remover or baby wipe.  You just swipe it all over the body, let it dry, and have glowing skin.  It is important to shower, shave, and exfoliate before application for the best results.

The last Fun Friday favorite is the Bath and Body Works Eucalyptus Spearmint body wash.  If you guys remember, I love mint tea….and I love this refreshing body wash just as much.  Its relaxing and invigorating all at the same time.  They also have candles, lotions, and fragrance oils all in this scent!  I restrained and just started with the body wash.

Hope you all have a great weekend.  I am working on an exciting “beauty project” that will be on the blog in a few weeks.

Thanks for reading!!

Avocado Bean Dip

Dip_thumb9

I have been making this dip since last summer.  I eat it on top of salads, salmon, black bean burgers (see recipe last week), or with chips.  It contains many of the same ingredients as the Spicy Black Bean Burger and I usually use black beans in the dip.  I didn’t want to overdo it with the black beans, so I omitted them this time.

Dip-1_thumb8

Shown above are the ingredients for the Avocado Bean Dip.  Here is a list of ingredients:

  • 2 avocadoes
  • 1 jalapeno
  • 1/4 red onion
  • 2-4 cloves garlic
  • 1 tomato
  • 1/4 cup cilantro
  • 1/3-1/2 cup bell pepper (red, orange, or yellow)
  • Juice of 2 limes
  • 1 can Garbanzo beans (chickpeas)
  • Seasonings to taste:  garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper

Chop and mix all the ingredients.  I try to keep the avocado chunky and not mashed like guacamole (which I have an amazing recipe for, maybe I will share it in a few weeks).

I have this amazing avocado slicer that makes the slippery job a lot easier.  Once I have the slices I just dice it up and add it to the bowl last.

Hope you give this recipe a try.  Don’t be afraid to really add the lime juice and seasonings, it definitely makes the dip.  Not to mention the super fresh veggies in the summer time.

Black-Bean-Burger-3_thumb9

I absolutely love these two recipes paired together.  It makes for a really fresh and delicious, mostly healthy meal.  For an even healthier recipe, skip the cheese and bun (I like the splurge since I am omitting higher fat meat).

Thanks for reading!!  Hope you enjoy this recipe.

Hannah’s Fun Friday!

Fun Friday

Someone shared this quick video on my personal Facebook page. I may be way behind the times but I was fascinated with all the different ways to tie a scarf. I think I currently use about 3 ways but now I have so many more ideas! Worth the watch if you haven’t seen it!

I love a good, easy to read series. Divergent definitely fit the bill here. I just finished book one and started book two. It reminds me of how easy Hunger Games was to read. If you’re looking for something to read, check it out!

Garnier Fructis Style Full Control Anti-Humidity Hairspray, Ultra Strong

Garnier Fructis Style Anti-Humidity Hairspray Extreme Control, Extreme Hold, 8.25 Ounce

This is the only hairspray I will use. I am super picky about the way it makes my hair feel. This Garnier Fructis hairspray holds amazingly but does not make your hair feel sticky or crunchy at all. I hate when my hair is stiff as a board!

If you follow me on Instagram (you totally should: hannahyoungandcrafty) you saw that I spent a lot of my spring break with my sister in San Antonio. We had so much fun dancing, laughing, and planning our trip to Europe!

Spicy Black Bean Burger

Black Bean Burger

This is one of my favorite recipes given to me by my co-worker last year.  I have made it, probably too much since then.  A healthier way to enjoy a “burger”.  It feels indulgent and you won’t miss the meat at all!  It is full of fiber to help keep you full longer and tons of fresh ingredients great for spring and summer.  I won’t say this is a quick and easy recipe, just because there is a lot of chopping involved, exactly what I love to relax me at the end of a long work day.

Black Bean Burger 1

Shown above are the ingredients to make the spicy black bean burgers.  Here is a list with quantities:
  • Whole wheat buns
  • 4oz Chipotle Cheddar Cheese (my absolute favorite)
  • 1 Tbsp ground cumin
  • 1 Tbsp chili powder
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 can black beans  (mash 1/2 & add 1/2 whole) – rinse to reduce the sodium
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 jalapeño (more or less to taste)
  • 1/4 cup minced onion (optional)
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/4 cup cilantro
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped bell pepper (any color will do)
  • Salt to taste

Black Bean Burger 2

Start chopping all those veggies!  Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and shape into patties (will make ~4 burgers).  Preheat pan on medium with cooking spray, brown on both sides.  Toast buns if desired.  I love to serve mine with my own concoction of an Avocado Bean Dip.  Stay tuned for the recipe next week!

Black-Bean-Burger-3_thumb9_thumb

Enjoy the Spicy Black Bean Burgers plain, on a salad, or on a whole wheat bun with condiments of your choice (mustard & pickles for me!).  If you try this recipe leave a comment below telling me what you think.

7 Ideas to Re-love Your Bathroom

Hi my name is Sue Jason and I am a blogger at My-bathrooms blog. You may follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Google Plus.

Does your heart sink whenever you go into your bathroom and see all the tired paintwork, scuffed and tattered cabinets and piles of half-used or nearly-finished toiletries scattered all over the room? The following seven tips, if followed in order, will help to restore your delight in the ‘smallest room’ and will soon have it sparkling and gleaming once again!

1 Declutter

image

Source

This cannot be emphasized enough! It really does not matter how superb your décor is, if it is piled high with junk and clutter you are not going to achieve the smooth, effortless look that you are hoping for! Make sure that only one bottle of shampoo or conditioner is open at any time and brutally throws away any products that have not been used for a few weeks, rather than leave them to gather dust.

2 Repaint

image

Source

If the bathroom is beautifully clean and tidy, but still looks dull and dingy, a fresh coat of paint will do wonders! Clean the walls carefully first, to prepare the walls for that fresh paint, but you may find that the thorough cleaning is enough to put the sparkle back into your comfort station!

3 Color Contrast

image

Source

Buy some cheerful and brightly colored towels to set against a neutral base - or vice versa! A good clean contrast between the towels and the walls adds a depth of interest to your décor and helps to fill the eye nicely.

4 New Shower Curtain?

image

Source

Examine your shower curtain carefully. These useful drapes are often overlooked, and can slowly acquire a layer of soap residue and even build-up from particulates in the water. If your shower curtain is looking rather grubby, give it a good wash – most modern shower curtains can be washed in a machine – but if the stains remain afterwards, pop out and buy a shiny new one! They are relatively inexpensive and the simple change from old to new will brighten your bathroom up amazingly!

5 Matching Accessories

image

Source

Invest in a set of matching accessories to use as hand-soap dispenser, soap dish and tooth-brush holder. A pretty matched set will pull the décor together much more effectively than any number of attractive, but mismatched pieces.

6 Up Your Cabinetry!

image

Source

Think about wall-mounting your cabinet rather than retaining a free-standing floor option. Not only does a wall-mounted cabinet free up your floor-space, but it offers more space both inside the cupboard and in the bathroom, due to the removal of the cabinet back and the gap between the wall and the rear of the piece of furniture.

7 Light up Your Life

image

Source

If you have done all of the above and your bathroom still does not appeal, consider investing in a new light fitting. Light bulbs and shades accumulate dust and dirt, and sometimes can even discolor with age and the heat from the bulb. Once this happens it is unlikely that your bathroom will look good until this shade is changed.

Brittany’s Fun Friday Post

Fun Friday

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!  I have been working some long hours, so I very much look forward to Fridays!  Hannah has been on spring break this week and is visiting me in San Antonio!  We have dinner and dancing plans and hopefully have some estate sales to pick through this weekend.

Here are a few of my favorite things this week (PS…I promise I am not getting paid for any of these!)

Birchbox!!  If you love to try new products but don’t like spending a fortune and then ending up with piles of half used bottles because you didn’t love it the way you thought you would, Birchbox is for you!  It is a monthly subscription for $10 with beauty and lifestyle samples.  I have gotten 2 birchboxes so far and they have consisted of Smashbox mascara (love!!), 2 small bottles of nail polish, Moroccan hair oil, leave in conditioner, an all natural tea mascara, clothes deodorizer, etc.  And it sure makes checking the mailbox more exciting than just finding bills Smile

Cordless hot glue gun!  My mom got this for me for Christmas this year and honestly any serious crafter should have one of these bad boys.  It stays so hot and allows you to take the gun all over the room and come back to recharge every so often.  I absolutely recommend this tool!

Cordless Glue Gun, 60W

X-Acto knife and cutting mat.  Another gift from my amazing mom.  Who knew how handy these would become when working on my burlap wall art birthday gift for my friend Shannon, shown here.  The knife and mat were also a hit at the Michael’s craft event.  All the crafters passed it around, taking turns to cut out their scrapbook paper for their embellished picture frames.

I definitely have a few favorite products and a new makeup brush I can’t wait to share with you in two weeks.  Stay tuned this week for a delicious tortilla soup recipe from Hannah and her favorites next Friday!!
