We’re going on vacation, come get featured!

We have kind of hinted around to a big vacation that we are going on. We are taking a sister trip to Europe! The trip is scheduled for June 4-18. We are flying into Paris, then flying to Germany, and the remainder of our trip will be spent in Italy. If you have been to any of these countries and have advice, we are all ears!! Of course, we will be posting tons of pictures of our adventures on Instagram (hannahyoungandcrafty and brittanyyoungandcrafty)

It is going to be here before we know it, so we are starting to take guest post submissions.

You must meet one of these two requirements:

1. Create a new tutorial that has never been posted on your blog.

2. Have a tutorial that is at least 6 months old on your blog.

Once you use the Google form below and we receive your submission, you will get an email letting you know the date and time your tutorial will go live on the blog. If you have never submitted to be featured, don’t be scared! It’s a great way to get a little exposure for your blog. It doesn’t matter how big or small your blog is!

Envelope Pillow Covers

I visited Ikea for the first time a few weeks ago with my mom and Hannah….addicted!!  I bought 2 pillow forms (here) & 2 pillow covers.  When I got home I realized the pillow forms were 26 x 26 & the covers were 20 x 20, I must have been too excited about the excellent prices that I forgot to check the size.  I knew I wanted to have the new pillows out for our Easter party, so I started to search online for easy pillow covers.  I found this excellent tutorial on a blog called Wonder Forest (here).  Her blog says 5 minutes…yeah right!  Smile  Took me over an hour, however I did make 3 covers and two of them were huge!  This is an excellent beginner project!  Don’t be afraid, give it a try!!

I am not going to do a step by step tutorial.  I am going to add a few pictures and send you over to Wonder Forest blog to check out her step by step instructions.  I also watched a few YouTube videos to help when I was slightly confused (this was my favorite).

Pillow

You may remember this rocking chair that I bought at an estate sale for $15 and repainted.  For the full post look here.  Don’t you just love the blue and white outdoor fabric!?  I found it at JoAnn’s fabric and of course used a coupon!

Pillow 1

I bought 1/2 yard of outdoor fabric, a small rectangle pillow form, and already had on hand the thread, pins, and scissors.

Pillow 2

Once the fabric is cut, iron down and sew a hem on both sides (the part laying on top of the pillow form in the above picture).  Check out this YouTube video to see exactly what I’m talking about.

Pillow 4

Pin the fabric inside out.  Place the rough looking hemmed edge on top so that it will be hidden once the fabric is right side out (I know that sounds confusing…just watch the YouTube video Smile).

Once I made the little pillow, I worked up the courage to make the two 26 x 26 pillow covers.  I was really surprised how big that is!!  A pillow this size would cost $50 or more.  I paid about $50 for 3 pillow forms & all the fabric!!

Pillow 5

I think I will add a small piece of Velcro or a button to secure the back closed on the larger pillows.  The smaller pillow stays nicely closed on it own.  This is a front and back picture…I am in love with this gray & white fabric that I picked up from JoAnn’s also.  It was like pulling teeth to get Brent (my new fiancĂ©) to take these photos since the pillows are in Conroe and I am writing this post from San Antonio, so no judgments on the quality please. Smile

Pillow

I love that I can change the covers out whenever I get tired of the fabric or if they get dirty and I need to wash them.  Such a great idea, why did I just now discover this?

Brittany’s Fun Friday

Fun Friday

This has absolutely been one of the best weeks of my life.  I have 2 huge pieces of news that I want to share with y’all!!  So Brent and I had a Easter get-to-gether with both of our families.  I of course made tons of decorations and signs, all seen below.

Easter

I used scrapbook paper with chalk label stickers to label all the food.  Loved all the bright colors.

Easter 1

And then Brent proposed!!  Could not have asked for a better proposal…both of our families and friends, crawfish, and a beautiful ring.

Easter 3

Then…as if the week couldn’t get any better, I had an interview at Texas Children’s Hospital in the medical center in Houston.  This would be my dream job and I got the anticipated call yesterday offering me the position!!  I am elated and cannot wait to start after spending two weeks in Europe with Hannah.  Seems like all the pieces are falling into place and I could not be more pleased.

New Job

And I just wanted to throw in a nice picture of me and Hannah Smile

Sunglasses Redo

Sunglasses Redo

I’ve been wanting to beef up some cheap sunglasses for awhile. This is a 5 minute project and you can really get any kind of design you want!

Sunglasses

Head to the Dollar Tree and grab some cheap sunglasses. These were all $1 each. I didn’t do anything to the tortoise ones, I just liked them :)

Sunglasses supplies

I picked up duck tape and washi tape at Jo-Anns Craft Store.

SunglassesRedo1

Put on a line of tape and then cut a few slits where the sunglasses go over your ears. Fold over to stick to the inside of the sunglasses.

SunglassesRedo2

Next, line up the pattern for the tip of the sunglasses.

Sunglasses 4

The other side isn’t exactly pretty but who cares, nobody is going to see it!

Sunglasses Redo 3

This is such an easy little project and adds some fun flare to your sunglasses!

I’ve got another fun sunglasses redo coming up that involves glitter. Stay tuned!

Hannah’s Fun Friday

Fun Friday

Happy Good Friday! I have the day off and have a 3 day weekend to look forward to. I’ll be heading to a crawfish boil in Conroe with the family. Can’t wait!

Here are a few things I’m loving lately:

Omg, I love this show. I haven’t watched the season finale yet from last night but I can’t wait! If you haven’t seen it, catch it on Netflix. You will be hooked.

When it comes to make-up, I’m cheap. Well I guess when it comes to just about anything, I’m cheap. I am definitely a drugstore make-up person. I have heard nothing but good things about this Bobbi Brown Light to Medium Bisque Corrector .05 oz (affiliate link). I inherited horrible under eye circles and I’m always looking for the best way to cover them up. This corrector has helped a ton and it was totally worth the splurge! 4

Of all the tools I love to use, a miter saw is definitely on the top of the list. I’ve used it on so many of my pallet projects. This factory reconditioned one is a great price!

I hope you all have a Happy Easter! Thanks for dropping in.

Pantry Organization Overhaul

Like most dietitians, I am extremely type A.  Everything has a place and that’s where it should be.  So when I visit Brent on the weekends, his messy pantry always drives me nuts.  Well not anymore!!  I had a blast organizing using a mixture of glass jars from Michael’s & estate sales.  I was able to purchase the containers from Michael’s during a sale & combining with my ‘20% off entire purchase’ coupon. I am in love with the finished product and the chalk labels (also found at Michael’s).

Pantry

I like the mixture of red, silver, and teal.  I used a basket to house some random items like bread and seasoning packets.  On the bottom shelf I am using a bowl my grandma gave me to contain the garlic and onions.

Pantry 1

I was able to utilize space by placing wire racks in the back, which I found for a few bucks at an estate sale Smile

Pantry 2

These jars may be my favorite, I haven’t quite decided yet.  I found each one at a different estate sale.  I paid $0.50 for one and about $5 for the other two.  I was amazed to keep seeing the same shape jar at different estate sales in San Antonio and Conroe.  I bought them thinking I would use them in the bathroom for cotton balls, Q-Tips, etc. but decided they would be better suited for the pantry.

Pantry 3

I couldn’t forget about the tea!  Brent and I love tea; his favorite is chamomile & mine is mint. I decided to make the labels pretty non-descriptive because we do like to try new flavors often.  Plus these chalk pens erase with a damp cloth, so no commitment and no smudges like regular chalk!

Pantry

Hope you enjoyed this organization post & that it inspires you to get organized in your home!!

Brittany’s Fun Friday

Fun Friday

I enjoy coming home from a long day of work and watching mindless TV.  My brain is usually exhausted from calculations, computers, etc.  Hannah mentioned last week that she loves Nashville, as do I.  I have been brainstorming about what my all time favorite show is and I have come to the conclusion that it is Grey’s Anatomy.  It is currently in season 10 and I have never missed a season.

I was given this very special gift by Shannon’s mom, Mrs. Debbie, who owns an amazing business called Cameo Blessings.  Mrs. Debbie’s parents settled an estate with thousands of vintage cameos from the 1930s to the 1960s in Rhode Island and she inherited the “leftovers” which have helped pay her medical debt.

This piece of jewelry is not only special, it has become a staple in my wardrobe!!

My last favorite is a place, to be more exact it’s a restaurant/bar called Bar Louie.  There are 2 locations in San Antonio and one in the Woodlands (close to where I will be moving next month).  Click here to visit their website and find one in your area!!  They have delicious martinis, excellent burgers for $5 on Tuesdays, and a bottle of Pinot Noir called Soul Sister that I split with my bestie Shannon about once a week after work.  It is our very favorite place to relax and we even have a regular bartended named Wes, which is also my little brother’s name!!

Quick & Easy Drugstore Foundation & Mascara Tutorial

I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for Collective Bias and its advertiser.

I love makeup but most mornings are a rush to get out the door.  I rely on quick and easy makeup that will last all day but I also want affordable products because I love experimenting.  I was able to find all of these RIMMEL products for this makeup look at Walmart for a very affordable price.  I was so impressed with the prices that I actually went a little crazy and bought all of these products.  RIMMEL is celebrating their 180 year anniversary during the month of April, so celebrate along with them and use a $1 off coupon in Sunday’s paper to try the Stay Matte Mouse Foundation and the Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara and get this quick and easy look.

Rimmel 3

Rimmel 4

Shown above:

  1. Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation – 103 True Ivory
  2. Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara – 001 Black (waterproof)
  3. Moisture Renew Lipstick - 642 Nude Delight
  4. Exaggerate Full Color Lip Liner – 030 Natural
  5. Glam’Eyes Trio Eye Shadow – 650 Summer Chic
  6. Stay Matte Primer
  7. Match Perfection Skin Tone Adapting Concealer – 125 Fair

I won’t be using all of these products in this quick and easy tutorial but I had to share my haul!  This entire look will be using drugstore products!  #beautyinspiration #CollectiveBias.

Enough chit-chat, let’s get started!  Start with a clean and dry face.  Here is a foundation tip start by priming your face.  You can use the RIMMEL Stay Matte Primer or even just a moisturizer to make sure the makeup has something to stick to and last longer throughout the day.

Squeeze a small amount of the Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation onto the back of your hand or dot onto your face.  Using your favorite foundation brush or beauty blender, blend out the foundation all over your face and neck.

Foundation 1

Next I used the Glam’Eyes Trio Eye Shadow in Summer Chic with just 3 easy steps.  Take a shadow brush and apply the beautiful copper pigment all over the eyelid.  Then apply the champagne shade from the crease to the brow bone for a highlight.  I like to dab a little in the inner corner of my eye as well to brighten things up.  Taking the dark brown shade on a fluffy blending brush and apply in the crease from outer corner to inner corner in windshield wiper motion until blended well and no harsh lines are visible.

Eyeshadow 2

My favorite part is next, mascara!  Take the Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara and apply in an even coat all over the top lashes, making sure to get all the way down to the base for the fullest looking lashes.  You can definitely apply mascara to the bottom lashes too but I rarely do because I find mine smudges and looks like dark under-eye circles by the end of the day.

Mascara

Apply your favorite blush and gloss and you are out the door in about 5 minutes!  I applied a peach blush & a light pink lipstick.  Hope you enjoyed this quick and easy drugstore makeup tutorial.  I had a blast creating it and have a new found passion for all things make-up, even if my usual application is a 5 minute face.  Experimenting is fun, especially when you can find affordable products that won’t break the bank.
